Nirvana With the Lights out

del.icio.us Tags:

Nirvana was easily one of the Greatest Rock bands to ever exist. Yes, I admit they were not virtuosos. But that is not what they were known for. That is not what they gave to music. That is not what they are remembered for.

They are remembered for the passion and brutal honesty they brought forward in their lyrics, and the intensity that was present in their music. Irony was the driving force of their hit "Smells Like Teen Spirit", Injustice was the Muse of the oft misunderstood "Rape Me", Pain was all too obvious in the late Released "You Know You're Right", which I consider a more obvious Suicide note than the one he scrawled before he died.

I just received the Box set from my brother for my Birthday. The Cuts are Raw, and the Songs are unfinished, which would drag down our image of any other band. Nirvana Fans revel in the imperfect yet powerful musical works of art.

The Box set pulls back the very thin layer of production and lets us see even more clearly what Nirvana was about. Intensity and Honesty.

I admit many will not like the rough cuts.... But I can only describe this set with one word.

Brilliant.

Tired

But that's nothing new. I didn't sleep as much as I should have last night. Stayed up to late on the computer doing my nerdy music/surfing thing.

I need a life lol.

I have taken to watching adult swim lately. I love Futurama, Family guy and Robot Chicken. Nerd heaven.

Interesting Link of the day.

I've been tired a lot recently. I thought before that I maybe wasn't getting enough sleep, but thinking about it, I get around 6-7 hours a night. That's not the recommended 8 but its in the ballpark. My friends get less and they seem okay. I dunno.

It looks like I'm taking another three months off school. There was a financial aid screw up, and I have to bust butt to get it fixed in time for fall.

But I won't be going to Columbus State. I am going to transfer to Ohio Dominican University, which involves taking my ACT. So I will be studying this summer, but not earning credits lol.

Been playing a lot of NCAA 07.....

I got some new cds the other day. I'm a music addict as some of you may already know, so it was like Christmas day when the shipment arrived in the brown Cardboard box that BMG ships in. Seriously, i like music lol. If any of you ever want to get me a gift, music will always be appreciated.

In that nifty little box, I got:

Nirvana-In Utero

Nirvana-From the Muddy Banks of the Wishkah

The Benjamin Gate- Contact

The O.C. Supertones- Hi Fi Revival

Emery- The Weak's End

Led Zeppelin- How the West was Won.

Relient K- Five Score and 7 Years ago

Nirvana's In Utero is one of those albums you have to listen to a few times before you can get into it. The first couple times through it comes off as abrasive, but as you delve deeper you will find it to be a gem.

Nirvana's Wishkah Album is a collection of live cuts. Some quality, others weak (notably the album's version of Breed).

I've not listened much to the Benjamin Gate album, though I loved their first one. (Too bad they are defunct)

The O.C. Supertones' Album is pretty much the same stuff as others, but still awesome.

Too tired to finish post, more later.

My little brother has a job at the movie theater.

Which means I get free movies. Awesomeness. I thought I'd write down what I thought about each of the movies I have seen, while taking advantage of his benefits.

No spoilers except for Mr. Brooks.

Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End

Totally freaking awesome! First of all the Action is great as always. There is the subtle and not so subtle humor that is found throughout the series. It does tie up the first two movies in a satisfactory way, while leaving room for a sequel, in a way that allows them to drop the series or make a sequel depending on what they want to do. It does not demand a sequel, but it allows for one.

Also the plot twists are unexpected and satisfying. For those who have not seen the movie, I'll just say this, if you thought you knew who these characters were, you are sorely mistaken.

The only downsides for me is that while the action is intense, it does tend to go on. The main battle of the movie feels like half the film. And while funny, Jack isn't as "Jacky".

Mr. Brooks-MINOR SPOILERS READ AT OWN RISK!!!!

Some disturbing stuff. A great serial killer movie, but VERY VERY DISTURBING. Kids should not see this movie. What I found facinating is that the main character is indeed addicted to killing, but hates it about himself. He is not the average off the wall killer you see in so many movies. He hates what he does and Tries desparately to stop. A very tragic story.

SPOILERS OVER CONTINUE READING SAFELY

Spider Man 3

Just plain cool. It does a great job of finishing the Peter/Harry storyline. Black spiderman is a facinating character, and Venom is just plain wicked.

Only downside is if you are not fond of complex storylines, this one has one. I thought it was great though.

MORE MOVIES LATER

I'm going to Heaven

You know, alot of Christians, as they grow in their faith and walk with Christ, tend to forget or push aside heaven. As if it were, childish to think about heaven.

Of course they believe in it. Its not that, it has more to do with how we are percieved when we speak about it. As if we are zealots, or simple. "I love Jesus, and I'm gonna go to heaven where everything is nice etc." It sounds like insane escapism. We are sophisticated, Lets work on theology for a while, and become educated. Lets discuss the sacraments or the Trinity, something lofty and beyond a simpleton's understanding.

But I really I find it sad. I know I am sometimes embarrassed when the topic of heaven comes up, I'm not innocent. However, I think this needs to change. Yes, Heaven is but a part of the Rich Tapestry God has woven for us, but it is a very very important part.

Think about it, when we came to Christ, what was foremost in our minds? The Love of a God that would Give Himself so that we can escape a dying and dark world, for a perfect and bright place. Before we could discuss intricate doctrine, and play with the big boys, we loved the sound of heaven. I did, I know that.

I think its time we felt some "Childish Enthusiasm" about heaven. I think we ought to begin making fools of ourselves. God Came not to give us a happy life on earth, but a Perfect Life in Heaven. Bask in it brothers and sisters. Look to the skies. We have hope for tomorrow.

There's no tears in my eyes today
I've only got good things to say
The Son chased away the clouds of grey
I'm going to Heaven and I'm going to stay
All smiles there, no trials there
No fears there, no years there
I'm going to Heaven
We're going to Heaven
Our tickets are all paid to heaven that God made
So goodbye blue Monday, no pain on Sunday
I don't need no women or wine
When I got Heaven on my mind
Be so far above cloud nine
You and me and God until the end of time!
All smiles there, no trials there
No fears there, no years there
-The O.C. Supertones

Life, Love and Why.

Life's looking a bit brighter I think. I mean of course a lot of the same problems persist, but I am feeling a bit less overwhelmed by them. I dunno.

I'm sitting out on my porch keeping a watchful eye on my little brother Skateboarding, and listening to some good music. Its a bit cold but not freezing. Better weather than we have had lately.

I'm sitting here playing with the kickstand on Chris's Bike, with my foot, listening to the Khreeh kreeh of his skateboard scraping on the ground as he practices his various tricks and maneuvers in the pursuit of the elusive yet glorious goal of most kids his age, pro skating. Well, maybe those aren't his goals, but who cares, it sounds good.

I've been listeing/reading more and more political stuff. Maybe its a spring/summer thing, as I did so last year around the same time as well.

Prayers for all in Need.

What to do.... What to do.....

Inspired by a friend's blog posting about local politics in her area, it got me thinking about our upcoming Presidential elections.

The future does not appear to be too bright. On the democratic side, we have two options.

1) Hilary, a harsh leftist who will essentially alienate the conservative portion of this country.

and

2) Barack Obama, who is even scarier than Hillary, because we know ABSOLUTELY NOTHING ABOUT HIM. Of course everyone is eating out of his hand. His base is the "I'm barely old enough to vote, but he's cute isn't he?" group.

On the Republican side, the only real possibility is Rudy Gulliani. I believe he will be good for security, but he will offput some of the moral conservative base.

Eh. I'll probably vote for Rudy, but I'm not very comfortable.

Blog Blog BLOOOOOG

A friend of mine has started her blog today, YAY looking forward to reading what she writes.

In other news, I've made it a point to watch more baseball. I love the game, but I usually bore of it a few weeks into the season. This season I will watch more, because when I realize that the Playoffs are coming lol, I tend to regret not watching more.

Also, the family is going out to meet up with a mutual friend of ours. She was our (Mom, Dad and I) Communications teacher last quarter. It was a fun class and she was quite kind, going out of her way to help us get through the class despite dad having some health problems that prevented us from actually attending classes. Instead we met at the Library, or occasionally at her home. She's just a great lady. That and she got me hooked on Metallica ROFL.

Yes, I said ROFL, this is a personal blog, not a grand essay lol, get over it.

Right now I'm sitting here watching mythbusters with my little brother. We watch the show together all the time. Part of how we bond. Of course right now he's trying to make the deepest sound his body can produce, and that as annoying as all get out, but I love him anyway :P

He is a great brother.

This particular episode, they are trying to see if they can blow out a flame with the human voice,
and if they can plant hypnotic suggestions into someone's subconscious.

Fun stuff.

Christ is Life.

Religious freedom is for everyone.

Even those without a Religion.

As much as many Militant atheists like to rant about how Religion is supposedly destroying the world, it is true that our Right to Practice our Faith is the Same Right that allows them to Ridicule my Faith.

I am a Christian, and I believe that Jesus Christ is THE Way THE Truth and THE Life, and that no man cometh to the Father but through Him. However, I will say clear as day that I believe in man's Right to deny Him. I do not believe that my faith should be forced down the throat of a non-believe, nor do I believe that atheism should be forced down the throat of the Masses through Judicial Rulings.

Why does it offend people that I wish to Practice my faith publicly? Do I trample on your Right to do the same?

Playing with Linux.

Hi all, I´m doing something novel and posting from nifty linux. Its a very basic distribution of linux, but its cool nonetheless.

Don´t worry. I Havn´t touched windows. I am running off a live cd. I can boot it from the cd. And when I take the cd out and reboot the puter, it comes back up with windows, like nothing happened.

In the morning I´m gonna go out and get my Temps. YEs I know I am nineteen and I dont have my license.... but whatever.

God Bless all

More Crap

My life is in a generally weird place right now. Some stuff is happening that changes my day to day existence, and we all know how much I like change.

Firstly, I had to withdraw from school this quarter. It turns out I would end up owing Ohio University about 600 dollars should I attend this quarter. And seeing as how I am also jobless, that's just not going to happen.

On a plus note, we just got the car fixed, meaning I can start the job search again. But frankly I think I might need some time off. I dunno. Ever have those unsurities that you just don't know how to address? Hmm.... I seem to draw them like a moth to flame.

Haha Tried to be creative there. Failed. However I do want to start writing creatively. Something I have fantasized about for years. I always end up giving up though. So I created a blog (in secret for now, may or may not share it in the future) where I can play around with creative writing without being "found out" lol. In studying for my speech on writer's block months ago, I learned that the key to overcoming writer's block, is to learn to overcome the fear of overly neagative judgement of your writing skills. I'll give it a shot I gues.

I am usually dissatisfied with my work. Not just writing but in just about everything else as well. I am a harsh critic of myself I guess. I don't feel I ever do anything good enough. I rarely satisfy my own hopes....

Its not that others have been critical. My family and friends are very supportive of me, in things that I attempt. I am my own roadblock.

I have always wanted to create. Writing, Music, whatever. But I just never feel up to it. I dunno.

I would also consider prayer, as I am depressed about a few things.

Why don't Christians Believe Christianity anymore?

Seriously, I've read Pastors who said that they believed that the Bible should be disposed of because it is no longer relevant to Christianity.

Some modern Liberal Churches have gotten to the point that they are essentially making up their faith as they Go. Deny the resurrection, deny the deity of Christ, deny the Scriptures Inspired Status, deny that Christ is the way the Truth and the Life. What do you HAVE LEFT?

MONOTHEISTIC PAGANISM. Christianity is built on Truth, on absolutes. If those absolutes are destroyed, we have nothing left. We are Bankrupt. Christianity is defined by what it teaches, and who its teacher is. If Christ is not God, if Christ was not Raised, if the Scriptures do not Record His Teachings, than we are hopelessly Lost.

Friday, March 16, 2007

I've gotta read chapter 13 of my communications book today and take a bunch of notes to get ready for my test, which I've got to get in by Sunday. Fun. This is the last test of the quarter. I get it, and a smaller assignment in and I'm done with it lol, which is bittersweet, because I am glad for the schoolbreak, but I enjoyed meeting up with the teacher. She is a fun lady lol. And she got me hooked on Metallica.

Oh, and prayers for her would be appreciated, her husbands grandmother just recently died, and they are taking it well, but its obviously not easy.

Chris has been getting significantly better at his guitar playing. I've been teaching him some things and he seems to pick it up quite easily. I will be teaching him more of course, lol. Soon he'll be as good as me, if not better.

Ech, time to get on the dang ol assignment.

short little blurb

I've always wanted to write. Its been a fantasy of mine for quite some time. But I have always been to shy to do something about it. I guess that's why I like to blog. I get to write, to express in, and mold with words, without fear of negative judgement because people expect blogs to be amateruish.

And that this is.

I want to download Sim City 3000 to my computer, but I can't find the stupid activation code that came with the game.

Applying to be a moderator at Christianforums

I have applied to be a moderator at Christian Forums. Prayer would be appriciated.

I had to leave my Job

The Car is getting unreliable. It is making some weird shaky motion. So we only drive it when we absolutely need to, and my job is relatively far away from where I live, so I had to leave.

It will be weird getting used to not having money, but I can get by. I have in the past.

I am teaching Chris Guitar. He seems to be taking to it well. I'm glad to have someone to jam with. Perhaps we can do something together. That would be freaking sweet.

I have been listening to more switchfoot and relient k. More upbeat. Although I did get the nirvana box set from the library.

I'm sleepy.

I think I'm gonna switch my homepage to google.com

I'm hoping I can get the new RK album soon.

Please pray, I have an online friend who is very depressed.

Please pray for me as well. My mouth is become increasingly filthy.

Pray for Chris as well.

I lost the link to a blog I was reading. I want to find it again, hope I can.

I need to clear some disk space on my computer, I'll set it to defrag in the morning. I'm being inefficient with me computy. I've added stuff removed stuff... added again... its a mess.

Eh. Goodnight and Godbless....

Not that anyone reads this thing lol.

Jelly might come by but I doubt it :P

I love old TV.

Yes, there are indeed good shows on the air currently. I love Bones, I am a HUGE Scrubs fan, and Think house is one of the greatest doctor shows ever.

But I spend most of my TV time on Reruns. Seriously, I ignore most of the current primetime shows to watch reruns of Law and Order SVU. Waltons is Great at 8 and 9 Am and I love flipping through all the shows I watched as a kid about midday.

I think MTV has ruined modern TV. Everything is a wannabe OC anymore. I HATE that stupid "my super sweet 16" crap watching rich little punks whine about which car their mother buys them.

Ech. Tv has declined.

Writer's Block

I have Writer's Block, and I can't keep moving on my speech outline on Writer's Block. Ironic I know.

Actually that's why I picked the topic. I couldn't come up with a good topic for my speech, so I chose writer's block, because that was primarily what I was facing. Actually, the topic is a bit more facinating than you'd think. Really!

I know it is a common problem, but its not an easily dismissable one. We all have to write things for school or work, and sometimes it rears its ugly head at the most inopportune time.

One of the main tricks I learned in my study of the topic was to simply keep writing. Often Writer's Block is caused by people over Criticizing their work. The trick is to realize that your first dract will be just that, a first draft. It will suck. Get over it and lay down the foundation on which to build. You can edit and analyze later. But for now, GET IT DOWN.

I am taking a similar approach to my blogging. I figure the only way to get better at blogging is to do it. The last few posts have been personal, but I will also begin to practice my political/philosophical/religious blogging as well. Things will progress.

What is this Gospel thing anyway?

Most of the non-Christian world fails to understand what is the driving and central force behind Christianity. This is partially because of the media's attention on aspects of Christianity, and not the whole, and the fact that most Christians don't do a very good job of describing their faith.

To the average non-Christian, our faith appears to be a set of rules and rites, tossed in with a sprinkling of morality tales and myths for good flavor. Most people can tell you that Christians believe the Ten commandments should be on every Courthouse (not actually true) and that Christians are against evolution (again not true) but cannot describe what it is that makes a Christian a Christian.

The Gospel is the central point of the Christian faith. No matter what our differences amongst one another, no matter what our styles of worship, no matter what our appearances, the thing we call the Gospel, is what unites us and what defines us as Christians.

The Gospel actually comes from a Greek word euangelion which means "Good News". The Good News we speak of comes down to this. We believe that all men have become stained with sin before God. We believe that all men do evil, and are worthy of punishment for that evil. However, God in His Infinite Mercy, has offered us a way to escape this punishment, by cleansing us. He came down, in the flesh as the man Jesus Christ, to be come a pure and sinless sacrifice, to pay the penalty we deserve. Thus through that Sacrifice He offers us Forgiveness of Sins.

THAT is Christianity.

How my life is progressing

Well, I guess as this is a random blog (not personal, not political, not religious, but rather all three and more) I guess I can ramble on about my life a bit. I have been attempting to keep this blog somewhat "smarty" but really I don't care. Its not like many people read it anyway (Hi Jelly).

Right now I'm sitting at work. It is a REALLY slow day. I have had around 10 calls today, and I have been here about 7 and a half hours. Oi.

There is a big debate on Christian forums over the concept of conservative/liberal subforums. That's a headache. Those opposed are making it sound like those for it are splitting the Church.

Dad's seizures have made it a bit difficult to make it to class sometimes. So the teacher is allowing us to meet at her house on Tuesdays to catch up. She is quite kind. She is interesting however in general. She is a kind sweet lady, who listens to Metallica and megadeth. As well as Celtic and Comtemporary Christian music. I have lent her a few cds, and she has lent me quite a few more. She got me hooked on Metallica. I haven't listened to her Megadeth yet. I may or may not like it. I hear though that the Lead Singer has recently found Christ (HalleluJah and Amen)

I brought my Bible/Prayerbook to work today. It is actually quite comforting. I have had some decent time to read today. It is nice. I said a shorter prayer as part of my goal to pray more of the Office during Lent. I didn't figure I would be able to do the full morning/evening prayer here at work.

I have not been reading/contemplating the Scriptures as I should lately. And I find it refreshing.
The Teacher said I had a fairly good start to my speech. I thought I would have done worse. Have to have it done this week. Gonna flesh it out a bit, and clean up the outline etc. I am writing on Writer's Block because I could not come up with a topic. It was, let's say... inspired.

A tactic I actually learned from my studies of Writer's Block is to simply write away and not let myself over criticise. The reason I don't post much here is because I begin to write, but judge it too harshly and don't let it through.

From now on I am just going to let it flow, and see what happens. Hey, its just a blog.

General Ramblings of the Nut Who runs this blog

What the heck did you expect, deep thought? Only when I am angry haha.

I've got two days to write a dumb speech, and I am COMPLETELY unprepared. I don't even know what to write about.

Stupid writers block. Got Nirvana on. Lika nirvana.

And Supertones, and Five Iron.

Um.... What should I write my stupid paper on.... I have no bloody clue.

OOOOOHHH

I got a new Windows Theme. Black and orange and shiney, looks neato...

eh, whatever.
